Welcome to the first annual Guide for New Moms. Whether you’re a first time mom, new mom with older kids, or know of someone who has just had a baby, this guide is for you. Below you’ll find a list of our advertising partners (in alphabetical order) who can help you navigate the early stages of motherhood, plus a re-vamped Resource list and some of my favorite blog posts geared towards new moms.
“Do I put my newborn on a schedule?” “My baby wants to eat all night long.” “My baby only naps for 30 minutes at a time.” “My toddler needs me to rub his back to fall asleep- and then every time they wake up at night!”
Carina the Sleep Consultant has worked with families in these situations and more. Carina meets virtually with families one on one to develop customized sleep plans that fit their child’s biological needs, while also incorporating parenting styles and the needs of the family. Carina values forming collaborative, transparent and nonjudgmental relationships with caregivers to meet each family where they are.
While sleep plans are for children 5 months to 5 years, Carina also consults with expectant and newborn parents to set up healthy sleep habits that set up babies for long term sleep success.
Carina lives with her husband and two young boys in Newtown, CT.

Kristen Smaldone Nutrition LLC is a pediatric registered dietitian practice owned by Kristen Smaldone. Kristen is a mom of 2 boys and a pediatric dietitian. Her passion is early childhood nutrition. All children can be good eaters. Laying the foundation from the time they start solids to the time they start school can be a critical window. Let’s be real though, starting solids can be confusing and toddler years… well enough said! I don’t want feeding your little one to be an added stressor. My goal is to give parents the confidence, tools, and knowledge to conquer these years.
Together we will make feeding your little ones easy and nutritious. With all the various nutrition information out there, it can feel completely overwhelming.
I want to give you the tools to confidently feed your child. In other words, I will teach you what, when and how to feed your child. In working together you will get the knowledge, resources and support to feel empowered in your decisions. At the end of the day meal times should be enjoyable!
Common issues I work with:
- Introduction of solids / baby-led weaning
- Picky eating
- Not gaining enough weight
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Food allergies/intolerance
- General nutrition advice

Dad, Harvard Grad, and Firefighter Indra Sen leads The Learning Experience-Newtown — where his sons Kai and Kaden attend. The program serves children 3 months to 6 years, and even has a before/afterschool program for older siblings. Parents choose The Learning Experience. because:
- Safety. 100% of staff have CPR/First Aid Certification and undergone FBI & DCF background checks. The school is proud to be a home for many police officer, firefighter, nurse, and military families.
- Leadership. Center Directors Bunny Kolf and Jessica Fiorini collectively boast 20+ years of Center Director experience. The two Director model better serves children and families.
- High-quality, experienced staff. Lead teachers boast an average of 11 years of early childhood teaching experience.
- Academics. The school’s proprietary literacy, phonics, and enrichment program helps children get Kindergarten-ready. Quarterly assessments are the focus of Parent Teacher conferences.
- Flexibility. We know flexibility is key for families. That’s why our program runs 5 days a week and gives parents the option to select an 8AM – 12:30PM, 8AM – 3PM, or 8AM – 6PM schedule. There is also a 3-day program and early care is also available.
