5 Skincare Tips from Westport MediSpa! | Newtown Moms

THE SEASON IS CHANGING AND SO SHOULD YOUR DAILY SKINCARE ROUTINE

BY DANA BROWNELL, M.D., WESTPORT MEDISPA

As we say goodbye to summer, we also say goodbye to the hydrating moisture levels in the air. That may not be such a bad thing, as many of us are happy not to deal with frizzy hair 😊 – but the impact on your skin from seasonal changes should not be ignored.

Our skin likes consistency, so when the fluctuations in the New England seasons occur, it can impact our skin as it adjusts to its new environment. As summer transitions into fall and the humidity drops quickly, your skin will have to work harder to maintain proper hydration. Combining this with cold outdoor wind and the dry indoor heat, our natural protective skin barrier can become disrupted, making it more susceptible to inflammation and irritation.  It is important to seasonally transition a customized skin care regimen to achieve, maintain, and optimize skin health and a natural glow!

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

  • Change Your Cleanser – Switch to a cream cleanser to provide additional hydration and set aside the gel and/or exfoliating cleanser.
    • Dr. Brownell’s favorite – Lait EV from Biologique Recherche
  • Balance the PH Level of Your Skin – The ideal Skin PH level is around 5.5. If your skin’s pH is off balance, it will become sensitive and dry and potentially cause problems such as acne, redness or clogged pores.
    • Dr. Brownell’s favorite – Lotion P50 from Biologique Recherche
  • Use a More Hydrating Moisturizer – As the moisture levels both indoors and out decline dramatically, you will want to combat this change with more hydration.
    • Dr. Brownell’s favorite – Prime Regenera II from Valmont
  • Don’t Forget the Eyes & Lips – The skin around your eyes and lips is naturally thinner and drier, and can often be the first to experience dryness during seasonal change.
    • Dr. Brownell’s favorite for Eyes – Hydra3 Eye Cream from Valmont
    • Dr. Brownell’s favorite for Lips – LipSmart
  • Get Regular HydraFacial’s – Your home skincare routine is pivotal to your skin health. With that said, there is only so much you can do at home. I get regular HydraFacial treatments from one of my medical esthetician’s. The cool thing about a Hydrafacial is that there is a patented vortex technology that allows for all of the congestion and build up in your pores to be thoroughly extracted, while removing the accumulation of dry skin that has occurred over time. In addition to the thorough cleansing and extraction, there is an infusion of hydrating serums and peptides to maximize your skin glow. The result is cleaner, healthier, and hydrated skin that is better able to transition from season to season.
