The weather finally seems to be turning the corner! Warmer weather means longer days, more outside time, and definitely more sense of adventure. If you’re looking for something to do, below is a list of 5 Spring Day Trips. I tried to include as much variety as possible – from quick mornings or afternoons to fill or full days away from home. Hoping you find something that fits your family’s needs!
Check out a Nature Center
If you haven’t had a chance to explore a local Nature Center, pack a picnic and make a day of it! Here are some of our favorites:
Stamford Museum & Nature Center
Darien Nature Center
Flanders Nature Center, Woodbury
Earthplace, Westport
Enjoy the Spring Blooms
Besides presenting those picture-perfect spring time photos, the places below offer a glimpse at the spring’s beautiful blooms in CT.

Day Trip to Mystic Seaport
Mystic is a fun day trip regardless of the season. However, warm Spring temperatures make walking around super easy and enjoyable. From Mystic Seaport to the Aquarium to all of the vibrant restaurants & shops, there is something for every member in your family.
Explore Essex
Besides having a super cute downtown area and home to the Griswold Inn, Essex, CT is full of family fun. The Essex Steam Train & Riverboat offers a variety of experiences and events all spring long. From Bunny Breakfasts, Mother’s Day Tea, and Day Out with Thomas, the steam train offers tons of activity.
Head to an Amusement Park Before the Summer Crowds
So you won’t be able to take advantage of some of the water rides/attractions at the below, but avoid the crowds by heading to these spots before school is out:
Quassy – Opening 4/23
Lake Compounce – Opening 4/30
Legoland
Six Flags (New England) – Opening 4/9
Sesame Place (This would make a long day trip, but definitely doable). More on Sesame Place here. (We took my oldest in early June 2019).
