At Home Fitness During Closures | Newtown Moms

For many of us a favorite fitness class or daily gym routine is part of our normalcy. It’s what we do to start our days, break up our day, or end our day. It’s the familiar faces we see at those classes and the communities our local workout spots have built that keep us going. For me personally, working out at home has never really been something I can commit to. (It’s boring & my taste in workout music isn’t nearly as good as the instructors I know!) I like the routine of making time to attend my favorite classes or trying a new class/boutique fitness studio/gym. By taking a class, I feel more accountable and know I work harder as opposed to going at it alone. And of course, we can’t underestimate, especially now,  the benefits of reduction of stress and overall benefits for our mental health that come with exercise.

Fitness studios & gym orders were told earlier this week to close for the time being. Like other small business owners, they too, are being creative in how they keep their members active, engaged, and on-track. The businesses below are offering the community free at home work-out options during this time. I’ve included as many details as possible.

Barre Boutique – Free barre classes are being offered through the Zoom app. Please contact the studio directly ([email protected]) for more information if you are not currently a member/class pack holder.

CrossFit Hook’d – Follow them on Facebook & Instagram to get access to their Live workouts. Current members receive daily work-outs, daily mobility training, and nutrition coaching. Virtual one on one training is also available.

CrossFit RedZone – Offering free drop-ins to non-members while the gym is closed. It’s something that you can do on your own or as a family. Here are the steps to set it up:

Head here  and take the online fitness assessment
Use this link to fill out the waiver
Finally, email [email protected] to access to class.

FIT 4 MOM – Virtual classes available. Please follow along on Instagram for latest updates & information. Stroller Barre class tomorrow morning 3/23 at 10AM.

FluxFit – Offering free 35 minute workouts via Zoom. If you fill out this form, you’ll receive a link with access no later than 10 minutes prior to the start of the class. All workouts are designed to to focus mainly on body weight exercises — easy to do without equipment! They will also be running a virtual 5K on 4/11, with the idea of running separate, but together. A suggested entrance fee of $20 is encourage as this supports the trainers and staff who are providing classes during this time. Please visit here to register.

The Newtown Yoga Center – Follow NYC on Instagram and tune in for Instagram Live classes. Here’s a site where you can find free videos and a subscription service.

If you are a local boutique fitness studio or gym offering virtual classes for the community during this time, please share by emailing [email protected].
