Celebrate National Ice Cream Day at One of These Local Spots! | Newtown Moms

Sunday may be National Ice Cream Day, but if I’m being honest, I’ve never needed an excuse to indulge in a little bit of ice cream, especially during the summer. And with temperatures rising and humidity nearly unbearable, grabbing a cup or cone of your favorite ice cream is a great way to escape the heat this weekend. Here’s a list of some of my favorite spots in the area:

Newtown:
Ferris Acres: In case you missed it, Ferris Acres was again named the top place to get ice cream in CT. Head over there this weekend to enjoy a variety of flavors. Don’t want to experience waiting in line? No problem, grab what you need from their pick-up window. I’ll definitely be indulging in some “The MJ Rell” this weekend.
Location: 144 Sugar Street, Newtown, CT. Monday – Saturday 12PM – 8PM. Early express window is open 11AM -12PM seven days a week for customers 60+, expectant mothers, customers with disabilities, and customers with compromised immune systems. .

Holy Cow Ice Cream: Located right in the center of town, Holy Cow hand makes the ice cream in-house with CT locally sourced dairy. They also offer two “rainy day” specials. If it rains on Sunday, you could save $1 on any item over $3 or pick any two toppings for free.
Location: 51 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT. Open Monday-Saturday 2PM – 9PM and Sunday 2PM – 8:30PM.

Danbury:
Il Bacio: If you’re looking for an indoor spot to grab ice cream, try Il Bacio over in Danbury. Pick from a variety of homemade flavors and Italian ices to cool off on any hot day.
Location: 30 Germantown Road, Danbury, CT. Open Tues – Thursday 11:30AM – 9PM, Fri & Sat 11:30AM – 9:30PM, and Sunday 1PM – 9PM.

Dubl Twister: This long open shop has 4 locations throughout our area. If you can’t make it to the original location in Danbury right by Western CT State University, you can try Brookfield or Southbury as well. There’s even a location within the movie theater in Southbury.
Locations: 164 White Street, Danbury, CT
317 Federal Road, Brookfield, CT
385 Main Street South, Southbury, CT
690 Main Street South (inside movie theaters), Southbury, CT
Hours vary by location – please check website

Brookfield:
Rich’s Ice Cream: Local Oxford favorite, Rich’s Farm Ice Cream recently opened a store in one of the new plazas at the Four Corners in Brookfield. Inside and outside seating is available.
Location: 7 Station Road, Brookfield, CT. Open Tuesday – Friday 1PM – 8:30PM, Saturday & Sunday 12PM – 8:30PM

Bethel:
Dr. Mike’s: Located right off Greenwood Avenue, Dr. Mike’s is a great option if you’re in downtown Bethel. There’s nothing better than stopping there and taking a walk after grabbing a cup or a cone.
Location: 158 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, CT. Open Mon – Thurs 1PM – 9PM,  Friday & Saturday 12PM – 10PM, and Sunday 12PM – 9PM.
