Get Outside and Take On a Local Race! - Newtown Moms

I’ll admit I am not a huge runner and the number of 5K’s I’ve done in my lifetime have been minimal. However, there’s something about spring and early summer that just screams get outside, move, and do a race. So even if you’re not a runner, some of the races rounded up below are great for a fast paced walk with a stroller and your little one(s) in tow. And as a bonus, many of these races support great local causes.

May
5/5: Redding Road Race, Redding – This event features a half marathon, 7 miler, and a fun run for kids at New Pond Farm. Walkers start early at 7:15 with the half marathon starting at 8AM.
5/5: Wolfe Park Trail Race, Monroe – When you sign up for this 5K, you sign up to be part of a “tribe”. 5 Tribe (or teams) will compete together for the ultimate race outcome, no matter what your speed.
5/11: Run 4 Hunger, Newtown – This race will be run at Fairfield Hills in Newtown and all proceeds directly benefit the Faith Food Pantry in town. Registration includes donations to the pantry. This race is great option for those mamas who want to run Mother’s Day weekend, but not on actual Mother’s Day. Newtown Moms is proud to be one of this year’s sponsors.
5/12: Run Like a Mother, Ridgefield – In its 12th year, Run Like a Mother aims to fuel a woman’s health & wellness journey. Join this empowering event on Sunday morning at 8:30AM.
5/31: Moonlight Run, New Milford– Join the fun at Youngs Field in New Milford at 7:30PM for a Friday evening 5K. A portion of the race proceeds will go to the Molly Ann Tango Foundation and the New Milford Boys & Girls XC Programs.

June
6/15: MMRF, Norwalk – Join this 5K that supports research and finding a cure for Multiple Myeloma once and for all! This race seeks to unite patients, caregivers, family members, friends, and health professionals at this event. This race is important to me because my uncle passed away from Multiple Myeloma fifteen years ago and my cousin works for the MMRF, which is a local non-profit dedicating to finding a cure for Multiple Myeloma.
6/15: Newtown Rooster Race – Join this fun event in its 43rd year for either a kids fun run, 5K or 10K at Fairfield Hills. All proceeds benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association. Check out the full details in Parks & Recreation’s Summer Brochure.
6/23: Tunnel to Towers, Bethel – Head to Bethel High School on June 23rd to participate in a local Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk. All proceeds will benefit the Stephen Stiller Tunnel to Towers Foundation & its programs.
6/23: Seventh Annual 5K Walk/Run & Pint-Sized Steeplechase, Bridgewater – Support Little Britches Therapeutic Riding School with a day of running, walking, and a kids fun run.
6/29: Mad Dash, Newtown – Run, jump, crawl, and climb through this obstacle course style race set up at Fairfield Hills. There are 3 levels of courses to pick from with a mini-dash for ages 5 – 8. Check out the full details, including how to register in Parks & Recreation’s Summer Brochure.
