Ricci’s Salon marks its 70th year in business this year. The salon opened its doors on Queen Street in Newtown in 1951 by Daniel Thomas Riccio. After several moves and 3 three generations later, Ricci’s is still family owned and run in an expansive 12,000 square foot building featuring a salon, spa, barbershop, and academy. And since Father’s Day is right around the corner, we thought today was the perfect time to talk to Dan Riccio about their family’s long-standing business.
Thanks so much for taking time to share your story! Can you start off by sharing the story of why your father started the business in 1951? Why Newtown?
My Dad started the business with a partner in town called Victor and Ricky’s. It was a opportunity to move out of Bridgeport area where he was working. Later Victor wanted to end the partnership and my dad continued on as just Ricky’s.
Ricci’s has been a part of the Newtown community for so long. What is your favorite thing about being a business owner in Newtown?
My favorite part of the business is the opportunity to mentor our artist family of stylist and barbers, and of course the guests that we have been blessed to serve all theses years. Generations of families, new friends, all a blessing to see each week . I also love the challenge of change , I always say the only constant in our industry is change. Change is good !
