Meet Daniela Nero, owner of DLicious Sweets Bakery and Danbury mom of 2. Daniela turned a life-long passion for sweets and the joy and beauty a cake brings into her latest venture. An entrepreneur at heart, Daniela has spent countless hours not only perfecting her cakes, but practicing, taking courses, and watching tons of tutorials with the goal of eventually opening a store-front bakery.
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Connecticut?
I am originally from Brazil and moved here when I was 20 years old to finish college. Four years later, I met my now husband and have been living in Danbury for the last 10 years.
How many children do you have? What are their names and ages?
I have 2 daughters – Lyla is 11 and Chloe is 8 years old. They are my entire world!
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I work part time as a Labor & Delivery Surgical Assistant.
Tell us about your work?
I own DLicious Sweets Bakery, a Cottage Food Bakery in Danbury, CT. I specialize in buttercream cakes with gourmet fillings, I believe life is sweeter with dessert and my secret ingredient is love! I am a self taught baker and make everything from scratch. I offer small desserts as well – mini cakes, cupcakes, cakepops, macaroons & brazilian desserts. I also make unique gift boxes – OH Sweet Box – filled with fresh flowers and sweet treats, perfect for any occasion. Each box is one of a kind and made special for each client’s special delivery.
Who can benefit from the work you do and/or what do you hope your clients gain from their time with you?
I don’t believe I just make and sell cakes – I see my cakes as an expression of love. I deliver feelings, sweets for a special moment and celebration – I believe I deliver love in each cake I create. When I see a client’s reaction when they first see what I created it’s the most special moment for me, their eyes light up and they are in awe of my work – and that is the most important part of my job as a baker.
What’s been the best piece of advice you’ve received from another mother?
Motherhood is the hardest job you will ever have, you must forgive yourself daily and know you are doing the best you can. Be kind to yourself – and remember that little eyes are watching you and you will always be their hero!
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I am surrounded by an amazing community, the outpouring of trust and support I have received since starting DLicious has filled my heart with so much gratitude!
