Intro paragraph: Marcelle Tiffany is a Bethel mom of two who just opened Whip Salon’s first location in Sandy Hook. I got a sneak peak of the new salon space (spoiler – it’s gorgeous) last week and chatted with Marcelle about being a mom in our area, the Whip Salon experience, and the salon’s grand opening & “Hair-Raiser” on 7/20 & 7/21.
Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in Bethel?
I’m originally from Danbury and I moved to Bethel about five years ago.
Child(ren) and Age(s)?
I have two daughters – Sophia, 8, and Abbie, 4.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I briefly lived in the Amazon when I was a kid! My grandmother lived there and I went to school there for a year when I was 8 years old. It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget, and I made lifelong friends that I am still in contact with.
Favorite things to do with your kids?
I love taking them to the park and doing anything outdoorsy! We enjoy doing crafts together, like painting and making slime. We also love going to carnivals!
Favorite spot in our area?
Definitely Lucas Local – they have the best lobster rolls! I also love taking the kids to Dickinson Park. They have a great playground and a stream that the girls like to play in. They also have a zip line which the kids (and myself!) enjoy.
What is your proudest mommy moment?
I am very proud of their accomplishments in their extracurriculars, such as ballet and cheerleading, and how great they are with each other – most of the time, haha! I am also so grateful of how eager they were to help me with getting Whip Salon open. They even painted and cleaned!
So, Whip Salon has two other locations in Connecticut, and your salon will be the first in our area. Can you tell me a bit about what you offer clients? And how is the Whip experience different?
Whip Salon is dedicated to ensuring our clients have an amazing end to end experience in our salon. That means that our talented stylists will not only do a great job on your service itself, but you’ll enjoy your time with us too. The new interior is modern and fresh, we went for a boho-chic vibe, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a trendy salon in LA! Plus we’ve got all the little extras like complimentary beverages from coffee to wine and prosecco, complimentary charging, free and fast wifi, Rockbot tunes which lets you request music while you’re getting your hair done and of course a mini scalp massage with every service! We also have easy booking through our app or website whipsalon.com. It’s definitely a modern salon experience.
Your grand opening is coming up on 7/20 and 7/21, can you tell us a little bit more about what you have planned and how someone can book an appointment for that weekend?
Part of our mission at Whip Salon is to get involved in our community and give back where we can. We have coined the term “Hair-Raiser” which is essentially a method of fundraising where a portion of sales is donated to a local charity or organization. We thought hosting our first Hair-Raiser in honor of Dylan’s Wings of Change would be a great way to kick things off to demonstrate our commitment to joining this wonderful community and company’s passion for being a part of the fabric of Sandy Hook. 10% of all service sales will be donated throughout our grand opening weekend July 20th and 21st.
As a mom and a new business owner, how do you find balance between deadlines & your family?
I am extremely fortunate to have such a supportive family who helps me with Sophia and Abbie, especially in the recent weeks. Opening a new business requires a lot of attention, so I make sure that all of my free time is dedicated to spending with the girls.
