Meet CarolAnn Ruiz, owner of Meraki Nails and Beauty, a new non-toxic salon located right in the heart of downtown Danbury. Here what CarolAnn has to say about her vision for the salon:
Please share the backstory and vision of your business, Meraki Nails and Beauty.
My family and I have always wanted to open a business, something that we could call ours, something beneficial, new, exciting and necessary. Being “Danburians” have made us aware of the need for a nail salon that is clean, unique and health oriented. Seeing the needs of our community has empowered us to open up this nail salon. Our vision has always been geared towards use on non-toxic products wherever possible and eliminating services that can cause harm to our staff and our clients. We continue to grow with the focus being the health of everyone who is a part of this salon whether staff, owner or client.
How would you describe your style?
Our style is minimalistic, clean and neutral. Simple is beautiful!
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Danbury?
I was born and raised in Danbury.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I am a registered nurse, I went to WCSU for my Bachelor’s degree and Fairfield University for my Master’s Degree. I have a good understanding about nail care and infection control. I love health and wellness, it is my absolute passion!
Favorite things to do in your free time?
I enjoy being outdoors. Hiking, running, exercising, spending much needed time with my family. Being involved in my spirituality is key to my journey as a business owner. When I have some extra time, I like to read!
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Knowing Danbury well has been key to developing my business, knowing the population/demographics as well as meeting local business owners has been vital to reaching our one year anniversary. Local businesses in my opinion are not meant to stand alone, we are meant to connect, develop friendships and partnerships that will benefit our community in the long run.
