Easton Country Day is a small, independent, coeducational school for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. ECDS was founded by educators who wanted the best possible academic and social foundation for their own children, in a learning environment where the values taught at home were echoed and strengthened. Teachers and staff seek to enable students to develop their full potential; academically, morally, creatively and physically, in an environment that fosters respect and loving kindness. This spring, the entire school has been working together on a Community Garden Project, aimed at brightening up the school’s courtyard for all to enjoy. We had the opportunity to hear first hand about this project and its importance to the entire ECDS school community.
In times like these everyone can use more time outdoors with a common purpose. From planting a front garden with blooming spring flowers to raising vegetables from seedlings to harvest, every student from grades K-12 has been involved in the transformative Garden Project here at ECDS. At any time of the day students can be seen building, hauling soil in wheelbarrows, shoveling, getting their hands dirty, and watching things grow. Nothing could be more therapeutic…or educational.
For many students who don’t have gardens at home, learning how to plant and grow their own vegetables and nurturing a garden provide an important lesson in appreciating how our food grows as well as how plants and flowers can enhance our daily living experience.
Easton Country Day School is now accepting applicants for the 2021/2022 school year.
