Did you know colon cancer is on the rise in young adults and if you were born in the 1990’s, you are 4x’s more likely to be diagnosed than someone born in 1950? And if found in the early stages, the survival rate is 90%. I didn’t know that until recently.
A little over a year ago, a friend from high school was diagnosed with stage IV Colon Cancer – at age 34. There was no family history and no genetic predisposition. When it comes to Colon Cancer, most people don’t even have symptoms until they are stage IV – because it takes the tumor years to grow before you start getting stomach aches. “It’s becoming an epidemic” is what he & his wife have been told by numerous doctors since beginning this journey.
On Saturday November 10th, they are hosting a fundraiser, Shop Your Ass Off for Colon Cancer, at a private home in Newtown. It was created to raise awareness, remind people to take control of their health and listen to their bodies, and raise money for critical research and a push for a younger screening age. Did you know this year the American Cancer Society lowered the regular colonoscopy screening age to 45? With that being said, we’ve decided to bring this event online in hopes of raising more awareness about early screening, and raise even more money for research. Because who doesn’t like to shop while raising money for a great cause!
A portion of the proceeds of all the purchases you make through the links below will be donated back to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance (CCA). This non profit works incredibly hard to create awareness to reduce the risk of colon cancer in others and they continue to invest a lot of money into research to find a cure. Wouldn’t it be great if younger adults were given the opportunity for a colonoscopy as a preventive measure?
