Ways to Volunteer During the Holidays | Newtown Moms

As we head into the month of November, many organizations are beginning to plan out their Holiday programs, as well as identify items & support needed. Here are a few organizations with on-going, annual programs.

Programs

The Newtown Fund Adopt a Family Program – Each year approximately 70 – 100 families need assistance in Newtown during the Holidays. The Newtown Fund runs an annual program in which “adoptees” receive a list of the ages and gender of each family member, along with his or her needs. You can adopt a family as an individual, a family, a group of friends, or an organization. Sign up here.

The Center for Empowerment & Education (Formerly The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury) – The Holidays, while joyous celebrations for many, can be challenging for domestic violence survivors. Each year, the center coordinates programs for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Chanukah, so they can enjoy each holiday with their children. F.A.I.T.H Food Pantry – Serving Newtown for over 30 years, F.A.I.T.H Food Pantry operates out of St. Rose Church and provides food to any Newtown resident who is in need. No appointment is necessary to donate and you can drop off food Tuesday 9:30AM – 11:30 AM, Thursdays 4:30PM – 6:30PM, and the first Saturday of the month from 10AM – 12PM. Monetary donations are also accepted online.

Toys for Tots:  Drop off new and unwrapped toys at The Vein Institute (Church Hill Road, Newtown).

Holiday Fundraising Events

Newtown Youth & Family Services Holiday Festival – This long-standing & loved Newtown Holiday tradition is back LIVE in 2021. See the full details here.

Ann’s Place Festival of Trees – The theme of this year’s event is Bringing Back the Magic. Happening the weekend before Thanksgiving at the Summit in Danbury, this is one event that is not to be missed.

Giving Tuesday – This annual day of giving takes place the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Started in 2021, Giving Tuesday was created with a simple goal in mind: a day that encourages people to do good. Spend time on this year’s Giving Tuesday, volunteering, donating to a local food back, or giving a monetary donation to a local non-profit.
