Did you know frogs can make different sounds for different reasons such as chirps, barks, grunts, peeps, beeps, croaks and quacks? Join us along with the experts from FrogWatch USA as we listen, monitor and identify native frogs who call Newtown home. A great opportunity to get outdoors while collecting important data that will help protect wetlands and local frog & toad populations.

FrogWatch USA is a national community science project focused on inspiring conservation through education. We are grateful to bring this important event to the community in partnership with The Peabody-Beardsley-Maritime FrogWatch Chapter.

For those looking to expand their knowledge on amphibians, the Connecticut Beardsley Zoo is offering a free FrogWatch training. Participants will learn about citizen science, the important role amphibians play in the ecosystem, and how to identify ten species of frogs heard in Connecticut. After the training, participants will be sent a virtual assessment they need to complete in order to become a certified FrogWatch Volunteer. Interested parties can register at: https://e.givesmart.com/events/Az0/?isOrderFormActive=true

Our guest presenters:

  • Jim Sarich, Educator Coordinator, Yale Peabody Museum
  • Jim Knox, Curator of Education, Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo
  • Andrew Connolly, Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo
