Meet Amy – Owner of Basil Rose Boutique | Newtown Moms

Amy Polinsky is a Newtown mom of 3 and owner of Basil Rose Boutique. BRB carries a wide assortment of funky, unique, and vintage inspired items curated by Amy.  From women’s clothing to accessories to home goods – you’re sure to find something in this store. And the kicker – there’s always seems to be something new in the store!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town? I am originally from a small town outside of Pittsburgh, called Grove City Pennsylvania. However, I have moved frequently after high school. We moved to Newtown 2.5 years ago from Tampa, Florida.

Child(ren) and Age(s)? Cash (10), Lennyn (8), Lola (4)

One thing people would be surprised to know about you? I have my masters degree in special education and was a school teacher for over 10 years.

Favorite things to do with your family?
We enjoy boxing and hiking together.

Favorite spot in Newtown?
It is hard to name just one spot with so many amazing places. But we really enjoy going to Dickinson Park and going on walks at Fairfield Hills on warm days.

What is your proudest mommy moment?
I am proud on a daily basis but when teachers and other parents tell me that my children are respectful and caring…I know that I am doing something right.

How do you find balance and still check off all your daily to-do’s?
I literally plan out every minute of my day. I get thrown off when a minute is not accounted for. Therefore, I am pretty routine in my day to day. Organization and having the kids have a strong management system (both behavior and household) helps tremendously. This is where the educator experiences help out.

What is the one thing you’ve worked on that you are most proud of?
Opening a successful business while raising 3 amazing children and maintaining strong relationships with my family, friends and my health. That is something to be proud of.

What is the best thing about being a business owner in Newtown?
The best thing about being a business owner in Newtown is the sense of community. I love how tight knit this community is and how much everyone wants to give back and support one another. The women business owners are so supportive of one another which doesn’t necessarily happen everywhere. We want to build each other up and see one another succeed. That to me is just beautiful!!

How are you gearing up for the Holiday this year? Anything special planned at the store?
I’m stocking the store with a lot of gift ideas. We also have a ton of sales each week leading up to Christmas as well as special events such as Shop Small Saturday on Nov 24th with 20% off the entire store. And a Men’s Private Shopping Event on Dec 20th 6-8pm. Men can come and sip bourbon or beer while I wrap gifts for their special ladies.
