Summer Farmers Market Round-Up | Newtown Moms

The warmer months in the northeast mean more options for fresh produce. Since becoming a mom, I realized how fun farmers markets and farm stands can be with kids. I mean if they pick it out themselves, doesn’t it mean the vegetable has a better chance of getting eaten? Joking aside, spending time with your kid(s) at one of these local spots can be a great way to spend a summer morning or afternoon.

Farmers Markets – Location, Dates, & Times

Newtown Farmers Market, Fairfield Hills: This farmers market runs every Tuesday at Fairfield Hills beginning on 6/11. It is open from 2PM – 6:30PM (perfect for a quick run after school pick-ups or after work.) List of vendors is still TBD. Please check the website as we get closer to opening day.

Danbury Farmers Market, Danbury Green: The Danbury Farmers Market is open on Saturdays beginning 6/22 from 10AM to 2PM. The market is set up right in City Center Danbury and is every Saturday until 10/19.

New Milford Famers Market, New Milford Green: Open since May 11th, this market lasts well into the fall. You can stop by the green from 9AM – 12PM to shop a variety of local farms & vendors.

Brookfield Farmers Market, Brookfield Municipal Center: The Brookfield Farmers market opens on 6/21 and happens every Friday until 10/25. The market is open from 3PM – 6PM and there are summer concerts immediately following at the band shell behind the market. And with the playground right there, it’s definitely something you can make an afternoon/early evening out of!

Bethel Farmers Market, Stony Hill Road: Although the website hasn’t been updated with the 2019 season information yet, you can follow along on Facebook here. This market opens on Saturday 6/8 and runs every Saturday 9AM – 1PM until late fall. Last year, the market also hosted fun events like community yoga classes.

Farm Stands

Castle Hill Farm Stand, Newtown: Farm stand is set to open at the end of June and will have a variety of vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and our family’s favorite – their amazing corn. They’ll also have eggs and frozen meats. Check their website or follow on Facebook or Instagram for all the updates.

Shortt’s Farm and Garden Center, Sandy Hook: This local farm is a certified organic farm for both fruits and vegetables. They are open Monday – Saturday from 9:30AM to 5:30PM with the exception of Tuesdays during which they are closed for the Newtown Farmers Market. You can also find details on their 2019 CSA and two cool add-on options – one from Butchers’ Best and the other from BD Provisions.

Part Thyme Farmer, Bethel: This Bethel-based small farm off exit 8 just opened a few weeks ago. Their farm produces locally grown produce, farm fresh eggs, and honey. Farm Stand hours are not posted yet, but they are offering a CSA for this season (they even offer a single share option)!.

Halas Farm, Danbury: Halas Farm offers not just produce and eggs, but is also a full nursery selling plants, trees, shrubs, and gardening supplies. Information on their CSA can be found here.
