Bridgewater Chocolate was started in 1995 by Erik Landegren. A Swedish chef, he came to the U.S. to help open Aquavit, a Nordic-themed restaurant, in Manhattan. He eventually settled in Bridgewater, Connecticut, where he started making chocolate to sell at the Bridgewater Village Store, which he was managing at the time. The business started building from there, and in 1999, Erik partnered with Andrew Blauner, who manages the business operations of the company. The chocolate making operations moved to Brookfield, in northern Fairfield County, and remains there today.
Along with the chocolate factory, the company has two retail store locations in Brookfield, one in West Hartford and the team is launching a holiday pop-up in Westport. The pop-up, called Bridgewater Chocolate Box Shop, will open on Friday, November 26 at 11 Church Lane in Westport, and will be open weekends only for the holiday season.
