4th of July – What’s Open & Ideas for the Long Weekend! | Newtown Moms

Happy 4th of July to you and your family! With 4th of July fireworks cancelled across the state, I wanted to provide a list of things that are happening over the weekend, as well as a few family-friendly ideas.

 

Enjoy a Meal Out – Most restaurants in our are are set up to accommodate outdoor dining. Click here for a list of restaurants. Don’t forget to make reservations!

 

Go on a Hike – Hiking/Walking somewhere other than around our neighborhood has been a favorite activity in our house for the past few month. Click here for a list of local trails. Please note some are stroller friendly, while others are not.

 

Go for a Swim  – Newtown Community Center and Newtown Parks and Rec have opened all three of the town’s swimming spots for residents. Click here to read new policies for the Community Center and here for Parks & Rec. Reservations are required. Please note the town beaches around Candlewood Lake are still closed as of 6/28/2020.

 

Visit the Beardsley Zoo, Mystic Aquarium, or the Institute for American Indian Studies Museum – All 3 of these spots are outdoors and limiting the capacity for visitors. Make a reservation and take a trip as a family.

 

Visit a FarmSilverman’s Farm is open from 9AM to 5PM. Goatboy Soaps, in New Milford, is also open for shopping & meeting the goats on Sunday 7/5 from 10AM – 3PM.

 

Have Dessert Before Dinner  – Try a new spot for ice cream or visit an old favorite. Here’s a list of local ice cream spots and all are open! Please double check the hours before you go as operating hours have changed.

 

Watch a Movie at the Drive In – UP will be playing at Edmond Town Hall this weekend.
