Looking for something fun to do on Monday? | Newtown Moms

Here’s to hoping that we don’t get as much snow & ice as the weather forecast is now saying. And well, if we get it, hopefully it will clear out by Monday so we can take advantage of some of the events below. Regardless if the storm is as big as they’re talking, cabin fever will most likely REALLY set in by Monday.

Embrace Winter by Ice Skating
The Ice Skating Rink at Fairfield Hills is open for the season! Visit the Newtown Parks & Recreations Facebook page for more details. Want to avoid skating outside? Here’s a link to a post on area ice rinks.

Escape the Cold by Visiting a Museum
Museums are a great way to beat the cold and still do something fun, engaging, and memorable. All of the suggestions below are a max of one hour from Newtown. I’ll also indicate the museums that are members of the ACM Reciprocal Network. EverWonder here in Newtown happens to be in this network. So if you’re a member at EverWonder (which I’m guessing a lot of you are), you can get discounted rates at numerous museums throughout the country).

EverWonder Museum is open from 9AM to 4PM on Monday. Stop in and check out their new BEAM Interactive Exhibit.

The Discovery Museum over in Bridgeport is offering FREE admission on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Day. This year’s theme is “See yourself, be yourself” and centers around the goal of giving children in the community the opportunity to see themselves in S.T.E.M related jobs. Details here.

I posted about this in my Weekend Round-Up….The Connecticut Science Center has a major ticket deal going on all weekend. Through Monday, all museum goers pay children’s admission prices. They have a ton of events that are on-going like the Sock Skating Rink and Butterfly Winter Wonderland.

In Norwalk, Stepping Stones Museum (ACM Member) is open on Monday. The schedule shows a ton of fun activities in addition to the exhibits. You can view Monday’s happenings here.

I’ve been wanting to check out Kids Play (AMC Member) in Torrington for awhile. On Monday, the museum is open from 10AM – 4PM with a visit from NBC Connecticut’s Weather Team and the Snow Monster. I’d like to add this event seems ironic in light of the weather forecasted for Saturday/Sunday!

KidCity Museum, another member of the ACM, is in Middletown. On Monday, they’re open 11AM – 5PM

The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx closes for the season on Monday. If you have the opportunity to get down there on Monday, here is all the information you need to purchase tickets.

Blow off Energy at an Indoor Play Area
Spend a few hours at places like Main Street AdventuresTot TownSkyZone Bethel, and Bounce. They are all open on Monday and offer different things. Check their websites for times and details.
