Congratulations! You’ve just about made it to the weekend. With a little over two weeks left until Christmas, this weekend calls for more action packed days filled with friends, family, and local events. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, here are some suggestions:

Since the weekend has just about arrived, here’s the rundown of what’s going on:

Kick off the weekend with Newtown’s annual tree lighting over in Ram’s Pasture. The event starts at 6:30 with singing, dance performances, the arrival of Santa and Mrs Claus, light refreshments and the lighting of the holiday trees.

These days, you can get subscriptions sent to your home for everything from steaks to flowers. And naturally, we’re all about them—because what mom doesn’t have a soft spot for something that helps eliminate one more errand on a never-ending list? That’s why we wanted to share Kali, which sends women customized boxes of organic “period boxes”.

Started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y in New York, #GivingTuesday has grown tremendously over the course of the last six years. I read an article over the weekend that stated more than $300 million has been raised online to benefit a variety of organizations. And this doesn’t even take into consideration that amount of volunteer time, food donations, and clothing donations that have also occurred. If you’re looking to give back on Tuesday or anytime during the holiday season, here’s a list of local organizations and events.

It’s nice having the extra two days to this weekend, right?!?! Due to the holiday weekend, there’s definitely a lot going on in and around Newtown. In addition, to all these great family activities and gatherings you have going on in your own family, there are also a ton of local “Black Friday” or Small Business Saturday deals.

Megan Palmer Rivera, executive chef at Palmer’s Market in Darien, clearly knows a thing or two about preparing a perfect holiday feast. After all, area families rely on her to make their Thanksgiving, Christmas and other festive meals special, from hors d’oeuvres to dessert. But that doesn’t mean she can’t understand how stressful this time of year can get.

Are you ready to get in the holiday spirit?!?! I’m guessing the answer is yes, if you’re reading this post. I’ve put together a list of holiday-themed events in our area. There’s a lot going on over the next six weeks and tons of opportunities to snap a picture with the jolly man in red.
