What’s Happening this Weekend in Newtown??
The answer to that question is A LOT, actually….
Since the weekend has just about arrived, here’s the rundown of what’s going on:
Kick off the weekend with Newtown’s annual tree lighting over in Ram’s Pasture. The event starts at 6:30 with singing, dance performances, the arrival of Santa and Mrs Claus, light refreshments and the lighting of the holiday trees.
A New Subscription Services Gets Personal
These days, you can get subscriptions sent to your home for everything from steaks to flowers. And naturally, we’re all about them—because what mom doesn’t have a soft spot for something that helps eliminate one more errand on a never-ending list? That’s why we wanted to share Kali, which sends women customized boxes of organic “period boxes”.
How to Get Involved in #Giving Tuesday
Started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y in New York, #GivingTuesday has grown tremendously over the course of the last six years. I read an article over the weekend that stated more than $300 million has been raised online to benefit a variety of organizations. And this doesn’t even take into consideration that amount of volunteer time, food donations, and clothing donations that have also occurred. If you’re looking to give back on Tuesday or anytime during the holiday season, here’s a list of local organizations and events.

Jumping for Joy for the Long Weekend!
It’s nice having the extra two days to this weekend, right?!?! Due to the holiday weekend, there’s definitely a lot going on in and around Newtown. In addition, to all these great family activities and gatherings you have going on in your own family, there are also a ton of local “Black Friday” or Small Business Saturday deals.
How to Have a Stress-Free Thanksgiving
Megan Palmer Rivera, executive chef at Palmer’s Market in Darien, clearly knows a thing or two about preparing a perfect holiday feast. After all, area families rely on her to make their Thanksgiving, Christmas and other festive meals special, from hors d’oeuvres to dessert. But that doesn’t mean she can’t understand how stressful this time of year can get.
Early Lingo Provides Tips for Teaching Your Child A New Language
Much like learning to swim or ski, it’s a heck of a lot easier to learn a second language when you’re young. But did you know the other benefits to growing up bilingual? “Learning a second language has lifelong benefits from cognitive to social to health,” says Caryn Antonini, founder of Early Lingo, a foreign language learning system for children ages 0 to 9.
Orange Is the New Black’s Laura Prepon Shares Her Mom Life
Actress and director Laura Prepon has played plenty of memorable roles in her life—feminist teenager Donna Pinciotti on That ‘70s Show and prison inmate Alex Vause on Orange Is the New Black both come to mind—but her newest one is mom to 1-year-old Ella, who she shares with husband Ben Foster.
Getting in to the Holiday Spirit
Are you ready to get in the holiday spirit?!?! I’m guessing the answer is yes, if you’re reading this post. I’ve put together a list of holiday-themed events in our area. There’s a lot going on over the next six weeks and tons of opportunities to snap a picture with the jolly man in red.
The Weekend Round-Up (11/16) is Here!
Is it me or does it feel like this weekend is a bit of a mix of Thanksgiving & the Holidays? It seems like we’re completely at that point in November where Thanksgiving is just around the corner and yet, everyone is focusing on the holidays. With that being said,...

Start your Holiday Shopping Early for a Good Cause
Did you know colon cancer is on the rise in young adults and if you were born in the 1990’s, you are 4x’s more likely to be diagnosed than someone born in 1950? And if found in the early stages, the survival rate is 90%. I didn’t know that until recently.
This Weekend in Newtown…
What are your plans this weekend? In my house, we have a bit of garden clean up to do and some painting. Super exciting, right? When we’re not busy with these projects, we’re planning to check out some of the following events.
Meet the Founder of Alexa James
Like many of us, Karina Drake says that having her first child completely changed her perspective. “We were living in New York City where I was attending a merchandising program at Parsons [School of Design] when we found out we were expecting Alexa,” says Drake. “Alexa was the inspiration behind the business. She was born in the city and as a new mom I was exposed to so many beautiful things that I really wanted to bring a piece of that back home with me.”
Have you booked your holiday photos?
Have you had a chance to book your Holiday family photos? My family had the opportunity to take a few holiday shots with Liz Newman a few weeks ago. The day was a beautiful (and very crisp) fall day. We met Liz at a local tree farm around 5 for
late afternoon pictures.
Election Day – Where to Vote in Our Area & Who’s on the Ballot
Like me, I’m sure many of you have been inundated with online ads, mailers, and even phone calls with Tuesday’s upcoming election. Unfortunately when I see ads, I’m not always able to look into the candidates and better understand their positions on issues that are...
